New Town Primary School Nurturing Brilliance, Inspiring Ambition

Frequently asked questions

I would like my child to attend New Town Primary School.  How do I do this?

Our admissions information for both Nursery and the rest of the school can be found here.  If have any questions about this process or would like some help completing the forms please do contact our friendly administration team at school.

My child needs school uniform but I am unsure where to get it.

There are a variety of items embroidered with the school logo available to buy at www.myclothing.com. Purchases made online will be delivered directly to you within 14 days and the school will also benefit from a 5% donation which we can use to further benefit the pupils. New Town Primary will no longer stock uniform for purchase, though we still do have some sizes of sweatshirts and white polo shirts in stock which can be purchased direct from the school office.

Items without the school logo (Grey pinafore dress, skirt, trousers, shorts, white polo shirt, blouse shirts, green ‘V’ necked jumper/cardigan) are widely available from high street retailers / supermarkets.

Please remember to always name every piece of school uniform so that any items which get lost can be easily returned.

What can I do to help my child learn at New Town?

There are lots of helpful hints and tips on supporting children’s learning at home here, and Our Learning booklets are produced three times a year to help you stay informed about what your child is learning.  The home school partnership is very important, and we strongly encourage you to support your child in completing their homework, learning their phonics or spellings, and by hearing them read.  If you have any questions about learning at New Town, teachers will be more than happy to chat to you about this.

I have some questions about my child’s next year group – who should I ask these to?

We operate an Open Door policy here at New Town which means teachers and leaders are available to chat through any questions you might have and are happy to help you with anything you want to find out.  Every year in September we offer a ‘Meet the Teacher’ session for parents and children which may answer lots of your questions and give you more information about the expectations in each year group.  We also know you may join us after September and if this is the case you will receive a tour of the school with a member of staff who will be able to answer any questions too.  Please remember teachers are more than happy to make an informal meeting time to discuss any queries too, as well as offering more formal appointments twice a year at Parents’ Evening.

How can I buy school meals for my child?

School meals cost £2.20 each day and are provided by Caterlink.  Children in Foundation Stage Two (FS2) and Key Stage One are entitled to a free school dinner. School meals are ordered online though Parentpay regardless of whether they require payment.

What should I do if my child loses any letters?

Copies of letters are always available at the school office and are also available in the parents section of the website.  Weekly newsletters can also be found on our website here.

I want to book a holiday but I am not sure when my child needs to attend school: where can I find this information?

Copies of the school year term dates are available here, and in printed copies at the school office.  If you wish to apply for a term time absence you should use an Absence Request Form which is available from the school office. Please carefully read our attendance guidance as pupils will only be authorised holiday in exceptional circumstances. Any request for leave should always be completed well before any travel arrangements or commitments are made.

Can my child attend any after school enrichment activity clubs?

We run clubs during the three main terms in each year: Autumn, Spring and Summer.  Letters are sent home before each schedule of clubs commences and bookings made via ParentPay on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to find out if there is space for your child to join a club in the middle of a term please contact the School Office.

How can my child attend Breakfast Club?

Places in Breakfast Club are allocated by a booking process. Please see more information attached below. Breakfast Club runs daily from 8.00am until 8.45 when the children join their classes for registration.  It is accessed from the gate opposite the staff car park at the bottom of Cholmeley Road.  If you arrive after 8.00am please ring the doorbell.  It costs £2.50 for each session booked, and the children are provided with a healthy breakfast and some relaxing activities to start their day. You can apply via the online application form found here, or downloaded and completing the application form below.
