Thinking Like A Designer…  

At Newtown Primary School we aspire for our children to be creative thinkers, to inspire, imagine and innovate. We encourage our children to develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills which they can apply and link to their learning through multiple subjects. We have created our own DT scheme of work, where our lessons consist of clear progression and allow for continuous development, with each unit carefully linked to learning in other subjects to create meaningful cross-curricular connections across the curriculum. Children gain practical skills within Design Technology and will have expanded their understanding of how to design with a purpose. Children are taught to investigate and research new materials and products, conducting their own comparisons and evaluations. They will make selections on tools, materials and decisions and create both prototypes and final products that showcases new practical skills learnt within different stages. Children will continue to grow and develop their understanding of Design Technology terminology through each year group.
