New Town Primary School Nurturing Brilliance, Inspiring Ambition

Information about school closure and re-opening

Following the closure of all UK schools at the end of Friday 20 March we re-opened to selected year groups on Monday 8th June.

Whilst school is still closed for some pupils, it is important that children are given opportunities to work at home. Please see here for more information.

Which pupils are eligible to attend school?

The government asked that primary schools welcome back children in nursery, reception, year 1 and year 6 along with continuing to offer places to vulnerable children and children of critical workers.

During this time, if you are a key worker who needs to access school to enable you to work, then please email to request a place.

Please find some information and photos attached  below for you to share with your children ahead of them returning. This will help them understand what school will look like and what changes have been put in place to keep them and their teachers safe.

What if my child is eligible but has siblings who are not?

The government has asked that only these year groups return to school. This does not include siblings in different year groups unless those siblings are in a priority group, for example, the children of critical workers.

Their aim is that all primary school children can come back to school before the summer holidays, although this will be kept under review by them and we await their guidance.

Full details of the government's re-opening plans and FAQs can be found here.

Claiming free school meals during the school closure:

Children who are registered at school for a free school meal are eligible for government funded supermarket vouchers each week. Those parents have been contacted. Anyone who has not received their voucher codes or is having difficulty claiming them should email These vouchers will continue to be sent to you even if your child has re-joined school, but you must now provide your child with a packed lunch daily, rather than booking a school meal.

In addition, if you are in need of support with food, please contact Readifood by completing their online form to order a food parcel or Wycliffe Church to join their Foodshare scheme.
